Overall, I was leaning more towards the side of an average independent. Regarding social issues, I was more towards the republican side, but regarding economic issues I leaned towards the democratic side. In age i leaned towards the 50-64 range, in sex I was on the mens side, in race I was white, and religion: black protestant.I was surprised that I was almost exactly in the middle of the spectrum because I assumed I would definitely be more towards the conservative side. I always assumed I had the same republican views as my parents, but falling directly in the middle definitely pushes me away from the strong republican view.
My top 3 candidates were Jill Stein at 43% and Joe Biden tied with Rocky Anderson at 40%. I wasn't very surprised that one of my top candidates was Joe Biden because I have agreed with a lot of his political views in the past. I agreed with Stein on everything about woman's rights, but we had completely different views about the death penalty and gun ownership. She strongly opposed both while I strongly supported both. I disagree the most with her strongly supporting illegal immigrants earning citizenship. I do not think illegal immigrants should earn citizenship in the united states because it is not the country they were naturally born in. Giving illegal immigrants the right to earn citizenship in a country that they aren't from just doesn't seem right to me because it is like the government is encouraging more immigrants to come to the united states. This may take job opportunities away from natural born citizens and I don't think its fair for immigrants to have that advantage/right.
I sided with the Republicans on most political issues at 89%. I was most surprised that democrats think children of illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship and that illegal immigrants should have access to government subsidized healthcare. It surprised me because giving immigrants U.S. benefits is going to encourage more immigrants to come to the U.S. and we do not need more people in our already overpopulated country. I was also surprised that both conservatives and liberals both agreed on the death penalty. I thought liberals would definitely be against it because of many ethical issues.
